In Feb of 2007, we bought a retired power company generator truck, which we converted, to a video production unit. It provides a sturdy platform for our large and heavy sport lens and camera. A shooting platform on the roof, allows us to get above the fence lines, and gives us the freedom of changing locations not possible with scaffolds or scissor lifts. It also provides one large improvement that even the big boys don't have, excellent sound. We are currently using large diaphragm condenser microphones, which are rarely seen outside of recording studios. Yes, they are delicate and require careful cabling, but capture every turbo chirp, break squeal, and exhaust report, with clarity that gives an "up close" experience.
